Who uses form N1
Anyone who is owed money or wants the court to decide a civil dispute (the claimant).
Deadline
Before you file, send a letter before claim and give the other side time to reply. Most claims must be started within 6 years (Limitation Act 1980). Always check the dates printed on your court papers.

- What the claim is for and the amount
- Your name and address and the other side's
- Brief details of the claim and the particulars of claim
- A statement of truth, signed by you
